Pencil Museum

Welcome to the Pencil Museum: home of the world's first pencil!

Located in Keswick, the home of the first pencil, visitors enter this museum through a replica graphite mine which would have served as the source of the pencil industry over three centuries ago. Follow the history of pencil production from the reign of Elizabeth I up to the present day. The museum is also home to the world’s longest colour pencil, which was created in 2001 and is almost 8m-long.
