The type of media you are using will dictate which type of blender you need.
If you are working with coloured pencils and want to create a subtle blend of colours then the Derwent Blender Pencil is the ideal accessory. It is a soft colourless pencil made from the binder used for making coloured pencils and allows you to blend two or more colours together to create a new colour. At the same time it physically mixes and smoothes the colours so individual strokes and hard edges are softened. The Derwent Blender is available individually or as part of the Blender & Burnisher Set.
Alternatively if you are working with Pastel, Charcoal or any other dusty media and want to blend or smudge colours together and do not want to use your fingertips the Paper Stump or Tortillon is ideal. This is a tight spiral of fibrous paper rolled into a long point and can be used to blend, smudge or spread applied colour. The end can be cleaned by sharpening it in a standard sharpener.
